This December I had the chance to visit the city of Herat in Afghanistan – most certainly not a country that had been on my “top 5 countries to travel to”-list. And though in the beginning, family and friends were not quite encouraging about the endeavour, it was a journey I could not not do. Given the fact that I had a personal contact as a host made my decision to go there an easy one. The text that follows is a summary of some my first impressions which I wrote back in Herat and which was also published on the pan-european blog “Fistful of Euros”.
